Book of the Week

This has been a special surprise. I picked it up on a whim after seeing an ad in another book, I think it was Hunter/Killer.

damn. this is good. really good.

While the whole "U.S government recruits superheroes " bit has been done over and over, this take is a bit .......different.

Well written, and good artwork. I can't wait for more!

Graphic Payload

Graphic Payload

Well, we got the new and improved website up for Tardy's collector's corner, where i buy my weekly fix of 4-color wonder.

I hope between this blog and the forum we can generate some conversation about comics in general or whatever.

Famous Hulk vs. Thing battles.

When I was a kid (circa 1970's) some of my fav comics where the Hulk vs Thing bashes.
Nothing like a good slugfest between two of marvel's earliest, ugliest, and strongest heroes.
So I'm gonna run a "spotlight" on these famous clashes, one at a time. I don't own all of them, but i'm working on it!

This one I do own, and it's a doozy. One of the best throwdowns, mainly because, for once, the Thing shows that he can take on the Hulk. Too many of these battles make Ol' benji look like he can't take the hulk on. Not in this one, although, as his luck would have it, he gets distracted by alicia, and gets KO'ed by Hulk.

Book of the Week

GODLAND

Picked up the Godland graphic novel this weekend. Initially I stayed away from it, as I was never a huge Kirby fan, and I thought it was just a "tribute" to him.

How wrong I was. I've only read the first 3 parts, but I'm hooked. Taking Kirby-esque artwork and updating it to the modern world, while still keeping the big-time cosmic "feel" to the book, is brilliant.

Pick of the Week

Ares #2
by Oeming, Foreman, & Fridolfs

Even though I am a mythology nut, I wasn't going to pick this up, figuring that it was just another attempt by Marvel to put another series on the stand. After reading Thor: Blood Oath, and seeing the same writer, I picked up #1 & 2. I must say that it was a good move. Ares is seen (rightfully) as the "bad boy" of the gods, and they normally don't want anything to do with him. Except, of course, when they have a fight on their hands. Tying in the Trojan War and Achilles, Oedipus complexities, and Ares' earth-born son makes for an intriguing storyline that will keep me buying, at least for awhile. The art is just OK, nothing to write home about.
